Designs and/or develops program logic for new applications or analyzes and modifies logic in existing applications. Codes, tests, debugs, documents, implements and maintains software applications. Analyzes requirements, and maintains, tests and integrates application components. Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented. Follow the Quality Management System for validations and documentation.

Business Systems Analyst II is a full-time position to provide support and administration to Laboratory Management System (StarLIMS), TimeForce (Time Management) System and few other applications.  This includes participation in projects to implement the solution. This role would function as: the primary lead on documentation, testing, maintenance, and operations; participate in the requirements and process analysis; build subject matter expertise on the TimeForce and Starlims (Archiving Solution); support the configuration of the application(s); support the build of integrations; function as the primary application administrator; function as the primary technology analyst for supporting tickets; partner with the Business Technology team members on all technical aspects of the project.

The fundamental role is responsible for enabling technology to add value to the business. This role will support the adoption and on-going use of application systems while adhering to CSL governance standards. This role is also primarily responsible for maintaining a functional and reliable technology environment for the areas assigned and for identifying improvements as appropriate. The individual in this role is expected to work independently and may work under the guidance of a senior level analyst position for larger or more complex projects.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities

Analysing and Defining requirements

Responsible for the elicitation and analysis of requirements in collaboration with Process Owners, Developers, Vendors and stakeholders, and effectively translating these into functional /configuration requirements of the target solution. Identifies and establishes scope and parameters of systems analysis to define outcome criteria and measure-taking actions.

Design and Configuration

Responsible for identifying the design of the target solution and preparing the required system design documentation (architectural specifications, diagrams and charts, functional and configuration specifications) to ensure the visualization of the technical implementation of user requirements.  Collaborates with Infrastructure specialists to deliver the target technology environment.  May implement the design by means of configuration and/or software development as appropriate. .

Testing and Validation

Prepares test cases and scripts that are relevant to the design and functional requirements while adhering to CSL defined quality and governance standards and procedures. Collaborates with Process Owners/Business stakeholders to ensure test applicability. Conducts and may assist with the coordination of system functional testing with internal or external resources as directed.


Prepares training materials and user manuals. Designs and conducts user training sessions with emphasis on relating the configuration and technical setup to the functional/business requirements.

Operations and Support

Responsible for the ongoing operation and maintenance of applications for the assigned BT functional areas. This includes providing 2nd or 3rd level incident support, change management, and maintaining the upkeep of technical records and documentation.

Proactively communicates the status of ongoing daily support and problem resolution.  

Ensures effective problem analysis and resolution of issues of moderate scope in a timely fashion and escalates issues when needed to appropriate levels of BT or Business.

Provides off hours support as it relates to BT functional area.

Project Work

Assumes project responsibilities as assigned for small to moderate scale projects (in terms of cost, scope and business function), that are either locally or globally managed. Performs matrix roles as assigned for local and global projects.

Collaboratively works with internal employees, vendors, and consultants to effectively implement solutions. Develops and maintains mutually productive relationships in the workplace and contributes to the team. Cooperates and acts as a team player. Engages with Application vendors under guidance and in alignment with CSL stakeholders and strategy.


Conducts guided research and analysis on new and innovative solutions, releases, enhancements and considers their applicability to CSL. 

Contributes to the identification and implementation of means to improve the qualities and efficiencies of BT processes, systems, and results. Keeps abreast of current technologies and professional concepts as it relates to the assigned IT functional area.

Maintain Regulatory Compliance

Effectively follow global BT procedures and policies are followed consistently as defined by our Quality Management System (QMS). Follows the appropriate global regulatory guidelines and current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).

Position Qualifications and Experience Requirements:


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; educational concentration in a computer-based discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Information Systems) or a technical discipline (e.g. Engineering, Mathematics) is preferred.


2+ years of experience in IT working within an applicable function that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position.

Hands on experience w/ Time Management software, QC Vera and Crystal Reports is a plus.

Hands on experience with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL is desired

Pharma/Biotech or similarly regulated environment experience preferred.

  • Oracle SQL and Tools such as Toad, SQL Plus, PL/SQL
  • Microsoft Office Products such as Project, Power Point, Excel, Word, Visio and SharePoint
  • Knowledgeable in all aspects of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). 
  • Business Systems Analyst & Solution Architect related Functional/Technical Skills.
  • The level of core skills will be based on level of role.
